one of the original truly-red besseae hybrids!
Phrag. Andean Fire, along with closely-related hybrids Memoria Dick Clements (besseae x sargentianum) and Rosalie Dixler (besseae x kaieteurum), produces striking fire-engine red flowers that perfectly showcase the excitement that Phrag. besseae has brought to the genus. These three grexes were the first truly-"red" hybrids, as Phrags. lindleyanum, sargentianum, and kaieteurum perfectly complemented and intensified the endogenous red-orange pigments of besseae. Memoria Dick Clements and Andean Fire have also been backcrossed to besseae, yielding the spectacular Jason Fischer and Inca Fire, respectively.
Each Andean Fire flower lasts about 3 weeks, and when the old flower drops, it may be preserved for up to a week by placing it in a plastic bag with a damp paper towel.
Love that color and the background info.
I tend to like the primary hybrids better than the pure besseae but I'm not sure why. I think it's the pouch that I'm not too fond of. I like this red guy though.
That is a beauty! Such color saturation! I have a Andean Fire x Grande that is in spike. I hope it gets a lot of the Andean Fire color!
Absolutely stunning!!!
Wonderful Andean Fire!
Cheers,
