    Default Salu Peoker

Just another attempt to draw my wife in to the hobby. I've been without bloom for a while now and today I saw a really cute Salu Peoker on sale. The flower store employee thought it would loose it blooms soon but I did see the little swelling thingie on the spike that might result in a branch. Needless to say I had to take it home. I told my wife that it was hers and that she has to take care of this guy. Hopefully this time the orchiditis will stick; I really hope sooo. If anyone else has other means of pulling SO into the hobby I'm all ears!!!

I think it is really sweet that you keep on trying to pass on the "orchid virus" to your wife. Hopefully for you, this beautiful phal will do the trick, keep us posted!

Richard, is she into flowers at all (indoors or out)? If so you might try flowers that either have a form or color reminiscent of the type(s) that she likes.

Can I safely assume that you have "dragged" her along to an orchid show? If so were there any types that caught her eye? If not, next time a show comes along, tie her up hand n foot, hike her over your shoulder and hit the show.

Can't remember what all pics you have posted, but do you have any mini's? Sometimes the "cuteness" factor can be a great aid towards successful inoculation.

Normally I would completely agree with you Judi, however, an extra hand when repotting.

She really likes this one so far. Usually the Paph. flowers get some ooohs and aaahs but generally she likes stuff that's in bloom. Since I've been without blooms for a while now she's been a bit grumpy For some reason she really loves the Paph. Magic Lantern compot (6 seedlings) and she's mentioned repeatedly that that is her favourite. This does contradict her widely used "when are the flowers coming?" comment.
It's a bit of a catch 22; she really likes the paphs and loves stuff in bloom. I was thinking of a Paph. Pinocchio (or other cochlo species or hybrid) that will hopefully be in bloom for about 4-5 months.

She sounds like my very impatient mother. Some of my favorite quotes:

"You sure do baby those things for something that might not even bloom."

"They look so ugly and raggedy when there are no flowers."

"They're taking up the cats windowsill."

"I don't know, I just wouldn't have the patience for them, that's all."

"I hope you're happy, the cat just knocked one over."

"*I bring home a cattleya* Why didn't you just buy a daffodil? They look the same and daffodils don't have such an attitude."

She knows deep down that a cattleya bloom could eat her wimpy viola's for breakfast. I like to think of orchids as the bitches of the flower world, and I wouldn't be surprised if they decided not to bloom in such negative presence. Just to prove a point.
