Wow, that one is red. Ron, do you find the darker in color bulbos have a stronger fragrance (more rancid) or is it pretty much a mix?

Bruce...it is a mix...now that I think about it, most of the smelly ones do have a labellum that is red though... dead and rotting meat color or open wound color, LOL

That is what I was getting at, Ron. It seems that they not only 'look' like some type of flesh, they 'smell' that way too when darker red and brown.

The ones with "bad" fragrance have odors that vary from low tide-fishy-rotting fish to feces -rotting meat fragrances. Some of these fragrances can be light, some can be overbearing, depends on the species. These are the species that attract flies for fertilization purposes. I think Bulbo phalaenopsis has the musty odor of a mouse's nest.

I assume that the ones with over-ripe fruit fragrance attract fruit flies. The vast majority don't have any fragrance.

Diane sent Louis a bublo phalaenopsis division that is finally large enough to bloom. I keep waiting on it to bloom. The leaves are something like 3 feet long on this guy. hehe... I bet it will be something since it is so large. I am glad to know it will not have a rotting meat fragrance.

LOL, glad you like mouse nest fragrance... phalaenopsis is a very cool Bulbo. That is one species that you don't want to purchase as a seedling, LOL...unless you are 5 years old and very patient.

LOL. Yes, The division Diane sent to Louis was a mature division. I posted a photo on here when we got it. I'll go out and snap another and put in the non-blooming section. It has grown a large new growth.

BTW - not looking forward to the 'souris parfum', but would rather have that in the GH than the rotting flesh fragrance.

I actually don't mind the bad fragrances in the greenhouse...kitchen I would...Right now there are 50 Milts blooming and right in front of the intake vent...I am tempted to cut all the flowers...I had a headache from them within an hour of greenhouse work yesterday.

We have one milt in bloom and it is very sweet. I guess several would be overwhelming!
