    Default lotus

Well, I waited a bit too long to try and snap a good shot of the lotus show this time. Hopefully I will get a better shot as the new buds open. It really has been so beautiful this year. Gilda sent this to us a few years ago and we have it planted in a large tub and sitting in the pond. I am sure it has moved out of the tub by now since it has gotten so huge. A couple of days ago two blooms were open and just stunning. I should have taken the photo that day, but instead I waited until after a storm here and now this is what I have. LOL. I will try to get a better shot. If you want to see a close up of the flower from a different blooming, look here: lotus

It seems to be very healthy and keeps putting out the bud, though the flowers fade to white rather quickly. I really love them when they first open and are the more pink color.

    Cheers,
    BD

Yes. We call them shower-heads. Some are large, some are small. They are cool.

    Bruce,
Your lotus has really grown !! It looks very happy.
I too, waited to long to get a pic. of ours and the hard rain we had this afternoon demolished it...another bud should open sometime this week, and I will try again.
Ours doesn't bloom as well as it should because it is confined to the barrell, but I adore the leaves as much as the flower ! The "shower heads" are an added bonus !

    Default Updated photos...

I got out there this morning and snapped a couple more shots. The next bloom is already fully open, so still not the best capture of this beauty of this lotus, but I think you can see from these images how pretty it is. It sits in one corner of the pond that runs along the side of our house. Enjoy.

Bruce, those are lovely. I like the morning pink color too. And I love your pond, er, lake! How wonderful to have a nice property like that. You can't swing a squirrel in my yard without hitting a neighbor!

It does look like a lake! And from the few pictures I have seen of your greenhouse, the oversized pond, you seem to live in a very beautiful setting.

Thanks. We live in the middle of the country at the base of the Ozark mountains. A very rural area with nothing around us but trees and fields.

The pond is man-made and runs along the side of our house. It has a rock retaining wall along the side of the house and a dirt edge on the opposite side. It is long and skinny and makes an "L" shape as it turns the corner behind the house. It was a cattle pond when we moved here in 1996 and was surrounded by barbed-wire fencing..

Since then, we removed all of that old fencing, and planted all of the trees you see in the photo in bloom including a red cherry tree and a Bradford Pear tree. We also planted some holly bushes under the pine trees to fill in that area and make our back yard more private from passing vehicles.

We added in a large fountain to the end of the pond behind the house with a pump to re-circulate the water. We also started feeding the fish. Now the pond is full of life - frogs, turtles, fish, and some water plants. We have cattails and the lotus so far. We had waterlilies, but the turtles or fish (not sure which) did them in. I keep my water iris in a pot in the fountain. I bring it inside the house during the winter though.

    Thanks for the nice compliments.

    Cheers,
    BD
