Hello everyone,
I got a bare root Maxillaria at the Santa Barbara Orchid Fair a few weeks ago. The grower told me to water it with some Superthrive. I have done so for last 3 weeks - keeping with my normal fert. schedule (Fert. once a week for three weeks and then just pure water to flush them out for the fourth week.)
My question is - When should I stop with the superthrive. I just checked the Max and he has some root growth, but not a lot.
Thanks in advance for any advice!
Colleen
How much ST are you using each time you water with it? Are you using it each time you fertilize? What about the week you water with just water, do you use it then?
When I do use ST, I use about 1/4 tsp, and I mix it in with my fert/water mixture, but I only use it once a month, and usually just during the summer when the plants are putting on most of their growth.
However, when repotting a plant, I will usually soak the roots in a solution of ST + water for 5-10 minutes prior to repotting.
Alternatively, you could use Dyna-Gro KLN, which is what I switched to last time I ran out of ST. (I also use KLN as a presoak for my LECA, so I figured why use two products when one would do?)
