    Yvonni:
Bare root is OK to buy but examine your plant carefully. In the commercial world weight = money so it's not uncommon to ship bare root. Sometimes I prefer bare root. Tall cane dend's tend to fall constantly. I use small pebbles (no other media!) for standard dend's. My father one day noticed that a 4" pot will fit very snug into a plastic lattice hole, so I made a small 2" x 4" frame and placed the lattice panel on it. I can fit about 50 plants per panel very well spaced and neat looking,

This is what I'm talking about.
By the way, Barbados and PR have similar climate so just ask!

Hi Jose , yes I believe both our islands are sitting in the same water . Thanks for responding , and yes I do have a bit of a problem right now with the plants falling over . It's kinda gusty a lot here right now and the wind just knocks them right over . While I appreciate the lattice suggestion , I have my plants on the inside since I'm in an apt and not my own house space is a bit limited but I will pass your idea on to my friend who has hers outside her house , thanks . Before I go though do you have any pearls of wisdom on how to keep my plants happy in our climate ?

I grow all standard dends outside, 4 hours of full sun then shade the rest of the day. I grow in them in plastic pots filled with small round river rocks bought locally by the bag. They get a lot of rainwater and simply love it, In all my years of growing the best tool I have found is my eyes. Observation, first of the plant vegetative aspect (thickness of leaves, roots, stem, growing pattern, color of leaves), ant then how it responds to light and humidity. When in Spain I had a Paph growing inside under lights and taught me a lot on observation. Of course THIS FORUM is filled with good ideas.
