    Angry HELP-SQUIRRELS HUNGRY !!

You know that feeling when everything is going really well, maybe to well.Yea, Well I come home and what do I find?? For some reason the local cute little rats are on a diet that includes GREEN STALKY CANE LIKE GROWTH !! Lucky the Cats are all up on hangers, except one. Those little ---------- did chew off a new spike on the one Cat.,..3 Den.s have stalk damage.Damage has been addressed. What I need to know is, HOW DO YOU KEEP SQUIRRELS AWAY.It doesn't help that there are about 10-15 that I can see.We have large oaks all around here. Help, anyone have any ideas ?? Thanks,Rich

A dog that barks and chases them? How about screens on your porch? I have problems with the furry rodents in my fruit trees, but so far not in the orchids.

I recently discovered that the local rodents are also munching on some of my new growths ....they will be dead soon!!! Ahem....got poison? Anything that eats my orchids gets dead fast. I was as upset as you sound when I found mine chewed too. They were even smart enough to nibble the back part and until I picked it up to see why the new growth wasn't growing I couldn't see what had happened. Arrgghhh!

I am in a apartment on the second floor. That could be rigged up,I guess.I was out there just now, with a squirt bottle of cider vinager. That did chase them away somewhat, for the short term. They will be back.Since when do they eat green stuff? There are people who put nuts out for them. They should be well feed ?? Rich

We have someone about two blocks behind us that feeds the squirrels peanuts which they then bury in my flower pots and flower beds. People that feed them are bad! lol I know they think they are cute, but they are just rats with fuzzy tails.

Maybe some kind of noise maker (wind chime) or spinning thing in and around your orchids? This is terrible. Good luck, man.

    cheers,

I go to the dollar store and get gaudy pin wheels, banners and rubber snakes to use in the apple tree plus a bird net it helps, but not a cure . I don't like them they have fleas . Gin

The "Joy of Cooking" cookbook has a recipe for squirrel.
