Default seedling den's leaf turning yellow

    Hi,

I bought a den seedlings and it had spag as its medium. The woman who sold me the seedling told me to leave the den there, water it once a week and to use 20-20-20. I have been doing just that but today I noticed that one of the leaves was turning yellow. Does the yellowing could mean over watering? Should I repot the seedling using orchid bark?

    Thanks,
    Lisa

    Hi Elissa,

It could be several different possibilities.
It could be just normal shedding of the leaf as it ages, or it could be an indication of a problem with the plant.

Can you post a picture of the plant?

I do have seedling dendrobiums in sphagnum moss when they are starting out, but as they age I slowly transition them to bark or open baskets.
So I dont think that the sphag itself would be a problem unless it stays constantly wet, or is packed too tight.

It always helps to have a photo before guessing what is wrong.

One leaf (turning yellow) appears to exhibit cold exposure damage.
How cold does it get in its growing area?

Typically, if it is normal aging the entire leaf will slowly and evenly dry up. There would be no green spots left on the leaf and it would feel crispy.

The leaf on your plant only has the edges turn yellow with green tissue still in the center. This indicates possible damage to the leaf that happened rapidly.

It could be sun burn, or perhaps the opposite: it got too cold.
