not overly unusual for a keiki to develop from a leaf node, particularly if there is Phal equestris in the background.(although I don't think it is in that plants background)

I've been watching this phal grow what appears to be a basilar keiki but it isn't growing from the base but higher on the stem.....just different, I guess.

Yes, I've had this happen several times.!
It is normal- no worries. You should see some of the monsters that have developed here because of strangely located keikis.
