We haven't had this game for awhile... so I thought I'd do one seeing as it is so windy outside that I brought in this plant.
so clues...
1. it's a Paph.
2. it's multifloral...
tee heee...
ok ok..
3. it's a primary hybrid!
now it isn't fully open yet, so let see how good y'all are!
My guess St Swithins
I never play this game cause I am terrible at it - lol! How about Paph. Michael Koopowitz. I guess it would need a few less spots on the petals, but maybe??
Cheers,
BD
what ever paph is it-look at thos pettals!!!!!!
is gonna be huge
good for u!!!
great job!!!
show it when its fully open again pls!!!
wow
Looking at the potentially long petels it possibly has either philippinense or sanderianum as one of the parents and the other might be rothschildianum looking at the potential color of the pouch and dorsal....so Saint Swithin (rothschildianum x philippinense), Prince Edward of York (sanderianum x rothschildianum), or Michael Koopowitz (sanderianum x philippinense)....well, which 33% is the correct answer....auh, don't tell me I'm out in left field without a mit!!!!!!!
very difficult to say !!!! I vote for sanderianum x rothschildianum (PEOY)
I'll vote for St. Swithin (philippinense X rothschildianum), too. As Howard points out, with a primary hybrid, there are really only 3 choices in the running here. Mind you, I'm even worse than BD at this game, so I'm quite prepared for it turning out to be one of the other two (philippinense X sanderianum or rothschildianum X sanderianum).
In any event, I know it's gonna be an awesome bloom. Even though I really prefer the red Maudiae types, and those with lots of warts & hairs, or anything involving sukhakulii in it, these big striped species and their hybrids are (at least in my never-humble-but-always-honest opinion) the queens of the Paphiopedilums!
Cheers,
Rob
Philipinensis X sanderianum the petals should be deep brown/purple, not this one. St swithin the petals should be flat/widening, this one out. Sanderianum X cocklopetalum also out. Look at the nature of the petals growing downward I am thinking sanderianum X rotchildianum (Prince Edward of york) me might be wrong.
Congratulations to all who said PEOY!
This is indeed a Paph Prince Edward of York which is the cross between the two species Paph rothschildianum x Paph sanderianum.
The second flower has now opened... and the photo is no glamour shot but just to show you the development.... will take another photo when it is fully opened.
Thanks for playing
seems to be a very nice PEOY
