Animal Behavior is my second favorite class that I've taken
,
Was Dr. Fred Dyer still teaching the course? I worked for him one summer doing honeybee research. it was pretty cool.
after Herpetology of course!
Never got around to taking a herp course there .... & can't think why not!
Favorite classes? Probably Invert. Zoology and Russian (Though the latter I had to quit after the first year. While I think foreign languages are great, being a science major I just didn't have the time to dedicate to it.)
The guy who runs the greenhouse, John Mugg, is huge into orchids. He runs Study Abroad courses in Central America several times a year.
That would be sweet!
My room is pretty small and I will have 3 or 4 tanks for my herps. One of the tanks is a 90 gallon, which takes up a lot of room.
LOL Yeah I know!
I plan on having a dart frog vivarium soon (another tank),
Some day I'd like to give them a try ... expensive lil devils though.
which I'll grow some jewel orchids in (my dart frog guru/friend has tons of them --
his name wouldn't happen to be Rob would it?).
During the day, it's only window light. But when I'm doing homework (or avoiding doing homework and slacking off of course) at my desk, I have a lamp with two 60 watt incandescent bulbs on facing down 10 feet away from my orchid rack.
Yeah that wouldn't be much good -- too far away to prove adequate light intensity and too hot to put close to the plants. I use 40W 4ft shop lights on my plant stand.
Also, there is a specialty orchid greenhouse that is run by a really nice older couple in Grand Ledge, 20 miles from MSU. It's a really awesome place to visit. I bought an Oncidium there last year.
I have gotten a couple plants from them. I find them to be a bit pricey though for what you usually get. Their set up is very sweet, however, I agree.
The Greater Lansing Orchid Society is having it's orchid show at the Conservatory, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI on Feb. 28 - March 1, 2009. I plan on going to that.
