Wow, absolutely love the color!!
And the shape of those blooms is gorgeous.
Nice one Becky, don't tell me it's fragrant on top of it all?

Hi all! I wanted to be the first one to post a pic of one of these this February
I purchased this lovely red catt about a year ago, and was patiently waiting for it to bloom, and it waaaaaaited until about a week ago THEN I did some research into it and learned that (they say) it always blooms in February!! I wish I'd known that earlier LOL, I would've refrained from poking and prodding the plant with a flashlight for the past 12 months LOLOL...
This plant also has 2 other sheaths with blooms, but then have not yet emerged. I feel like the blooms are a little small, but then again, it may have been setting buds when I was moving (via driving a uhaul) to chicago and maybe that stressed it out a bit.
Pretty color anyways!! Very vibrant. Here are some culture details on this particular plant:
-grown in south window
-humidity an avg of 50% daily
-grown in hydroton
-fan on it all day to keep air moving
-winter: water 1x a week, every 4th week just clear water, fert all the rest of the time
Enjoy!
~Becky

Naw, no fragrance...this one def doesn't need to have any scent, EVERYONE can see it LOLOL...
Nice red! When they are that lovely it must be hard to only see them once a year!
Always a favorite!
Nice going Beckey, I can't wait till mine are big enough to bloom. I guess I will have to wait till next febuary.

Hmmm, actually, Becky, mine is fragrant -- albeit faintly.
I didn't think mine was going to bloom in Feb this year (though it usually does). Then, after I complained, it decided to make a liar out of me and do so anyway. Unfortunately it didn't bloom as prolifically as last year
Hope you won't mind, Becky, but it seems silly of me to start a brand new thread by this name when you just started one, so I'll tuck mine in with yours.
Btw, for those who are unfamiliar with this old cross, neither Becky's pictures nor mine are truly accurate with regards to color. Digital cameras seem to have a great deal of trouble accurately capturing reds and purples, IME (though perhaps if I had a higher grade camera...?) and to add to the challenge, the flowers have a satiny sheen to them that really messes digitals up. The color is a much richer red with, what I would term, 'firey' highlights in the center.
Nice color, and I like the star shape too.
Well its red and gorgous I want one but I'm grounded
very nice...I have always admired this one!
