This is a Colombian species that was only described in 2002, by Eric Christenson. The flower is about 1" , non-fragrant. I find that many times the short spike emerges from under the medium, a distance from the plant, which can be seen in the plant photo.

It never ceases to amaze me how much these maxillarias look like cymbidium flowers... this is a very pretty shade of orangey lemon.
It is funny how the bloom looks like it doesn't want to have anything to do with the plant! It just grows the opposite direction ....
Very unique.
