    Arrow Lets talk lenses!

Okay....I would love to hear about good quality lenses I could eventually invest in for my camera. Any personal experience or recommendations would be really helpful. I have just purchased my first DSLR, Nikon D300. It came with a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR. I wanted something for macro and found an Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di which had good reviews. The Nikon 105mm f/2.8G ED-IF AF-S VR originally caught my eye until I saw the price...lol.

Anyway, just share any helpful information you can think of in regards to purchasing lenses. I wish that Canon lenses could work on Nikon because my dad had quite a few that I would love to have used...ah well. Eventually I want a telephoto lense but for now I am at my spending limit.

    Thanks,
    Shann~

Hi Shannara, I use a Tamron 70-300mm f4-5.6 Di which has a macro facility at 200mm or more. I have had some very good results. Mine is a Canon fit, but they do one for Nikon. Both of these images were taken with the macro on at distance of about 6 feet.

Shann I have a Nikon D~80. Now that the D~90 has come out I'd like that one instead and unless I could sell the D~80 that won't be happening too soon. I agree for most of us Nikon users the Nikkor Macro is pricy! About a year ago I did some looking around and found a Sigma 105mm Macro that is very nice and the price is affordable. The lens also comes in a 70mm size. The difference will be the perspective of your pictures. The lens is alittle heavier than your 18mm ~ 55mm lens and it takes 58mm filters. I like it very much because it helps give the camera body better weight balance. It is almost the only lens I use now for my orchid pics...

I got my new lense(Tamron AF 90mm f/2.8 Di )! I am still trying to figure out how to widen my focus area but for now here are a couple shots.

Saw this on a weed in the yard:
