This beautiful paph supports an 18" spike topped with 4 flowers. I was so looking forward to their opening and now that they have begun, I see they are damaged! I know water will produce the brown shriveled appearance of the pouch but I specifically NEVER spray the flowers with water. Also, notice the dorsal seems to be shriveling... so what's your thoughts. This is the 2nd year for me with this plant and last year's were just beautiful.....

Howard I would guess water with low temps...the other flowers should be fine
Doesn't look too bad to me!
i've had similar happen... usually the damage occurs either because of water & cold as Ron said, or the initial damage is mecahnical, ie if i bump the flower (or it falls); and sometimes it is caused by an insect pest and the browning just keeps expanding.
The good news is that it isn't inherent in the plant, so the other flowers, and future blooming should be ok.
I bet it was the water temp. Hopefully it will be back to normal with the next blooms.
Cheers,
BD
Very cute. I hope have it in my collection.
I think I know how you feel. You have high expectation for your blooms to be just perfect and then they arn't what you expect and beat yourself up for what you think you did wrong. It's not like you can go back and do it over. There will be more blooms to come and they are still beautiful.
