    Default Back bulb success

I've repotted a NOID about 2 months ago since it was crawling out of the pot. It had 2 back bulbs that were a little ugly so I decided to chop them off and figured it wouldn't harm anyone to keep them a little longer and see if they had any dormant eyes. One of them started to get yellow and mushy so it went into the trash. At that point I checked the second one to see if there were any dormant eyes, when I was checking I damaged the only eye I could find so I wasn't too hopeful. It looks like it had another eye somewhere because this is was I saw peeking out of the medium.

I guess the message is that if it's not completely rotted and dead there is always a chance!!

congrats! At times, I sprout my back bulbs a year prior to repotting. I take a sharp knife and cut through the rhizome creating a front lead and back bulbs. Come new growth the back bulbs sprout and I divide the plant into 2 plants both now with front leads.

I'm always amazed when a "dead" plant throws new sprouts. Good luck....

Congrats! I understand this can also be done with dendrobiums - before I try a little "home surgery", do I need to ensure that the back bulb retains some roots or is it ok to just cut off the bulb.

Getting some roots may be challenging as the plant is fernbark mounted and the root system is quite firmly integrated into the matrix.
