This may have not been the smartest move I've ever made, but I had removed the keiki from my beautiful 'mary motes' burning sands. So far, both mama and separated baby seem to be doing just fine.

Today, I was sort of rearranging the bark, and found this lurking!!

Now, the question is, what is it? Is it a new root? Is it a new leaf? Doesn't look like a spike, does it? Since this keiki doesn't even resemble a strap leafed Vanda yet, I haven't a clue.

Part of me is sorry I didn't wait and just leave it with its mama. There was a ribbon winner last week at the FLOS meeting, and that keiki was much larger and still left with the mother plant. The whole thing was just awesome!!
