I'm in the process of purchasing (and have received some gifts) several new chids, and I would like your opinions on repotting them in s/h when they arrive. I've already ordered new pots and Prime Agra, as well as a root booster.
The first three are already here. And they're mature (and huge). They are blc. Owen Holmes 'Mendenhall X blc. Plum Pretty ' Black Magic. Right now they're in 5 1/2 " pots, but I've ordred 6 1/2 " s/h pots I'd like to try them in.
Next is Wilsonara Pacific Passage 'Rocket Burst." This is a compot. They are currently in a 3 1/4 inch pot and are about 10 inches high. There are nine plants in this tiny pot, so they will have to be separated and repotted. I'm thinking one or two per new 3 1/4 inch s/h pot.
Next is Zygonisia Cynosure 'Blue Birds' orchid blooming size. The breeding is Aganisia cyanea x Zygopetalum Skippy Ku. These are likely to bloom within a year. They have at least three pseudobulbs with a good root structure. The leaves are roughly a foot long. The grower is going to repot this one prior to shipping, so I'm thinking maybe I should just leave well enough alone, unless it's in sphag (which will have to go).
And finally, Paph wardii, large seedling. This plant is a large seedling, probably two years from first blooming, and is in a tall 2.25 inch pot with a leaf span of about 10 inches or so.
If I should go ahead with s/h for these (any or all), can I use a systemic treatment such as Bayers in the water, to avoid any problems? Is this even necessary in s/h? And if so, what type do you guys recommend. Same question for feeding. I am currently using Miracle Grow.
Thanks in advance for any ideas you may have. I want to be ready when they arrive next week.
