Strange Hibiscus flowers...

I received a lovely set of hibiscus cuttings awhile back from one of my RVO friends. The red has taken off and turned into a lovely bush already. It is producing stunning large red flowers and some are strange looking. I have no idea why they are doing this, but as you can see from pictures that it will have normal flowers and the strange ones at the same time. The strange ones are very lovely and what-ever is causing this, I hope I can keep doing. lol They are so pretty....

And then the unusual one...sometimes I get two or three of these at once. This time it's a mixture. I never know what the flowers will look like until they bloom. It's one cool hibiscus!

A couple more shots of the weird type flowers. Sorry for the blur...I'm learning to shoot pics with my new camera and I'm totally not getting this one. lol It's a higher megapixel and for some reason I cannot get up close or it blurs out totally....







Now that I've got the new camera, now I'll get the bugs out of the puter. Then I'll be online more again....i've sure missed being on here!

I love, love, love the 'strange' ones. I've only ever seen them in the Carribean, I've never seen them growing here in the States before. I have no idea why there would be two different types of flowers on one plant, though but I'm very happy to see your pictures.

I love the strange one, Connie. I also received a couple of clippings from that same wonderful member, but both of mine died after I transplanted them into the soil. Mine bloomed and bloomed in the vase. I guess I should have left them alone, but I got tired of changing the water in the vase.

received the unusual one from the same RVO friend...such cool blooms. Mine are still in water and haven't thoroughly rooted. I had a bloom on one of the cuttings a couple of weeks ago. All my cuttings are still alive and now doing some active growth so hopefully I will see some root growth soon

Connie, you received more than one type of Hibiscus cuttings. The strange one is a different plant than the red.

Actually...it is the same plant producing the regular flowers and the weird ones....And at the same time!

I haven't a clue what that is. Have never seen one like that before, even though we live in Hibiscus Heaven.

Why don't you PM our friend...I know she sent some of us cuttings of more than one hibiscus. I only requested the unusual one

The strange crazy Hibiscus is "Hibiscus schizopetalus" and it is native to eastern Africa. Could it be possible that you got it with one grafted onto another type of Hibiscus?
