Default Another Phal yellow leaf on phal question

I already did a couple of searches but couldn't find the answer I was looking for.
If the top leaf (not full grown) of a Phal should slowly start to turn yellow starting from the base, what could be some causes for this? I know about older leaves falling off & to check the underside of the leaf. I read a lack of nitrogen could cause leaves to turn yellow but I'm not sure if I've ever seen that mentioned on the forum.

Also is there a way to search for posts that contain a set of specific words? Ex: if I wanted to only see post that contain yellow, leaf & top. I've typed in multiple words before & will get threads that contain those through out but have nothing to do with what I'm looking for.

You will have to specify a bit more, is the leaf turning yellow and drying out, or is later turning black and rotting? If its just yellowing and still growing , then most probably it is getting too much light which is causing photooxidation, but if it is getting musshy and dark then its probably crown rot!

Forgot to mention, a picture would be very helpful to diagnose the exact problem.

My first thought was crown rot too, but yes, it would help to see a picture.

Try using the 'Tags' to search for your question. I try to make sure to tag every thread I read if it doesn't have tags already. Also, when posting a question, be specific in the title of the thread. After indexing, you can look at a list of similar threads at the bottom of the page.

    Cheers,

I don't think it could be getting too much light. It's in a room that gets very filtered indirect light. I'm careful when I water not to get any stuck in the crown though I could always slip.
It's a subtle yellow at the base that fades into the green. I don't remember it being like that when I first got it. It's nothing major (yet) but I don't have the best record with my orchids. If I can remember to take a pic when I get home I'll post this week. In the meantime input is welcome

I've never added tags to my threads. I should get into the habit of that.

Smile My Phal has Yellow Leaves, Too. Any Idea Why?

    Hi, Everyone,

I got this Phal as a gift. It's roots grow on the OUTSIDE & in the bark media. It's on a small table at an East window, and is the furthest from the window.

Several days ago, a leaf fell off that had a bit of YELLOW at the base. Then in the last few days, the rest of leaves have turned YELLOW at the base.

    Any idea why?

I've been feeding it, and my other Phals, a "6-30-30" fertilizer a couple of times a month. Regular water the other times.

    Thanks.

Romulus, there is something wrong with the roots, it is clear from the picture that there are a lot of dead roots and only one or two live roots. Stop any fertilization at once as it will cause more stress to plant. Water only with distilled or RO water. Make sure that the humidity around the plant is high, but the plant is only moist, not wet. This will help the plant to produce new healthy roots. May be you want to try out water culture with this one, there is already a post on the community with successful results.
