Orchids & other plants in same pot?

This is cool to know cause I've wondered before if a coconut can be used. Since I have yet to see it I assumed it wasn't the best idea.

Ron do you have any pictures posted of yours? My cousins brought me back a coconut from their recent FL vacation. So it still has the outer shell. And I have a new orchid that will need repotted

meanwhile, put your coconut out in the sun to dry it up and prevent any molds.

I also use coconut coir as medium mixed with charcoal and sometimes pebbles, because it is free in my farm.

If you pot your plant in a coconut husk (without the inner shell), remember that the whole thing will rot in a few years time. A plastic pot will not. A terra cotta pot will disintegrate or break apart far longer.

On the question of other plants in the pot? I think they compete with the orchid for the medium, hence the medium is gone or completely rotted earlier.

I naturalize many of my plants, hence they grow on tree trunks along with other orchids, ferns, molds, fungi, mildew, lol...Many plants love it.

as promised a few pix.
you noticed, if there is other plants (orchids) in the same pot (coconut), i would choose smaller plants, which dont interfere, depending on the size of the pot.
what i found also ideal is, using those growing areas for baby plants, broken shoots etc, just stick em in and let em grow for awhile before repotting.
it creates a lot of moss in there too!

here we go,
first pix i have the most varieties in, dendro, cattleya, arachnis at the back, younger bulbo's or dendro's in front, and pendelous ones mounted underneath.

the rest i guess you probably figure, mix of paph and bulbo plus oberonia. erias, no id's, gramma, phal and tiny thrixspermum.

Oh wow thank you for posting all those. I like when moss grows over the 'pot', very natural looking. When I get home today I'll put the coconut outside. It looks like you have a nice set up outside and your plants are loving it.

Hi Ron, thanks for sharing. You gave me good ideas. I've seen many floral handicrafts, especilly in Northen of Brasil, made by coconuts, but not like pots for orchids. I do liked it
