Hi all,

I have had my encyclia cochleata for about 6 months. It was in bloom when I got it, the spike about a foot tall with three little blooms on top. It is still flowering now, strongly. Has 5 blooms on it, and three more buds. It keeps growing taller, the spike is taller than 2 foot now, and I have had to stick two canes together, one atop the other, just to support it. It is growing leaves too, it seems really happy, but if it grows any taller I will have to sort out another cane!

Is this normal? Should I cut the spike before it uses all of its energy on flowers?
