Default What is growing off my phal?

Hey guys! Forgive me if I'm sounding stupid here, but I need a little bit of help with my phalenopsis. I got him discounted at the store because his blooms were falling off. I knew he'd bloom again, so I seized the opportunity to get a super cheap orchid! But the next week I noticed some protrusion growing from about mid way up his stalk. I wandered what it was, as I didn't expect him to grow any more blooms or anything for a while since it seemed the end of his blooming cycle. (I tried to include a photo, I hope it worked!)

Let me know what you all think! I'd really appreciate it!

It's too early to tell but it's either a branching of the spike (which may bloom again) or a keiki (vegetative reproduction, will grow into a baby plant which can be removed and potted up when it's roots are 1 1/2-2 inches long).

Well, that's exciting! Should I be concerned at all that he's trying to do this so soon after loosing his blooms?

Nope, don't worry about it. Just continue to care for it as you have been.

Cool. Also keep in mind it might decide to do nothing much more than what you see now. Orchids teach us patience for sure.

    Cheers,

    Jet,

I would also take the opportunity to repot the plant. You can then check the roots. Most local "chain stores" severely overwater Phals. leaving the roots a mushy mess. Cut these off and place the plant in the medium that has worked bet for you.
