Default Another trip to the Conservatory

At the risk of boring you gentle readers to tears, what follows in another plethora of pics from my latest trip to the conservatory near my sister's place. (We went for a walkabout there on Mother's Day with the folks.) It was a beautiful albeit somewhat chilly day.

    First, inside the Conservatory

Some of our members in South America will be quite familiar with this plant, I have no doubt. It is one that is near and dear to many of our hearts ........ a cocoa tree Small flowers sprout directly from the branches

The pods get quite large. Forgive the less than stellar photos. The sunlight overhead didn't help.

Some sort of fern. The leaf was over 4 ft long counting the stem/petiole. I liked the feather-like pattern the rows of sporangia made on the underside.

"WE don't need no stinkin' petals!" Not sure what kind of tree this one is though I know I've seen it before and should remember the name. Old age I guess.....

A rather odd flower that I don't know many folks get to see. Attractive in an odd alien way....

Which belongs to this -- Sarracenia purpurata

    Some nice fuchsias

My mom particularly liked this one ....

    Some other lovelies

And now some shots of the grounds........

I was amazed to see this was a maple -- I had never seen one with bark like this! I thought it incredibly cool! (I know I have strange tastes ... )

Wow! Liked the pictures of the conservatory. Reminded me to add more fuchsias and azaleas with the summer slowly retreating in bangalore.. Also, I need to replace my old, browned out passiflora.

That " odd flower" is called a Passion Flower or vine, we have them growing wild out in the horse pasture...also have a hybrid growing up my Dogwood tree. It is a named hybrid called "Egyptian Queen." It is purple & darker purple. The white/pale blue species is the one in your pic. Has a wonderful scent...Smiles from Texas! Loved your conservatory tour... Betty :-)
