    Default Phala Orchid Root Rot

Ok, so I just scored 2 really nice looking orchids on clearance. They have 6-7 leaves apiece, and there nice and green, and it had a few blooms. I looked it over and it has severe root rot, like, i trimmed all the deal and was left with just 3 little live roots. I am going to cut off the flower shoot, I repotted them, used peroxide on the roots, and then washed it off. its been a day now, and they havent yellowed or drooped at all. Will having all those nice green leaves and looking fairly healthy from the top help it quickly regenerate new roots. Or am I just wasting my time? Thanks!

Having all those leaves will definitely help it. You may see it lose a few before it begins to grow again, but that will be as the roots begin to grow. I would suggest putting a couple drops of rooting hormone into your water every couple weeks for awhile. It will help regrow the roots a little faster. Good luck...the flowers from rescued plants are always very sweet.

Yes, do use some rooting hormone to speed recovery.

Awsome, sound like ill find a bottle of rooting hormone and get to work. I just found another of my orchids is 2! And they were having some root issues also. I have discovered that the sphagum moss that the stores use they pack WAY to tightly, and it kills the roots. I have a few others that i have been having pretty good luck with slightly loose sphagum moss and thier just flourishing, i see alot of growth almost daily. I had really poor luck with the bark, it nearly killed one orchid
