I was given a phal orchid last november and to my surprise, it's still alive. when the blooms all fell off and the shoots dried up, i cut them down. now, i am noticing a new leaf growing, but also noticing a white growth, approx 1 inch, growing from the bark underneath one of the bottom leaves. it looks almost translucent. does anyone have an idea?

Could be a new root. Can you provide a photo-that would help?
Susan
A photo would be very helpful. I think Susan could be correct, a new Aerial Root. When you water your plant does it turn more green? If so its a new root. Take Care,Rich
thanks for all the replies regarding my white growth question. it is an aerial root--that's just wild!
