Here is a first-bloom mini cattleya seedling that I bought last fall. It has grown quickly and is doing well in s/h culture. The breeder/grower tells me that he has bloomed several of these but none has the shape, color intensity, and purple-edge cream lip like this one! He recommends I bloom it again and have it judged. It has three new leads and should yield two or three buds/spike when mature. One of the first-bloom sibs of this plant had three flowers on one spike.
Best of all, he is about to register this cross as "Slc. Susan Bell", named after my kidney donor of March 03!!! I'll honor her every way possible if given the chance!!!
Enjoy!

Nice flower Garland. It has that iridescent look to it in those pics.. and sounds like it's growing well.. 3 new leads, u'll have a specimen there in no time. Good luck when putting it in for awards.
Cheers
Tim
Very lovely, and a wonderful story behind the name. You grow this under lights? RSJ
Yup, under lights and in front of an east-facing window.
Nice job blooming that, Garland! And yes, a very thoughtful and deserving honor re. the grex name....
that shure is purdy, garland!
its way cool that your donors gettin a nod.
i really love the idea of un-named catt crosses, for some reason -- even more so than, say, an un-named speculative phrag hybrid. ive got a slc. tangerine jewel X blc. george king 'serendipity' thats got a couple sets of buds on it right now. im on pins and needles about how itll turn out.
anyhooo, congrats once again!
Good growing ! beautiful bloom , and a very thoughtful kind thing to honor your donor . Gin
