As far as the Speedo goes, not a chance in hell. But here's the "hat plant" as it appears in "full bloom". At the rate we're going up here in the Tundra, it'll probably stay in full bloom for the next 12 months continuous! It is a cool grower, you know!

Last night was our clubs monthly meeting. We always try to have a member raffle/door prize. Last night a brassovola nodasa was brought as a show and tell plant and he also brought a division of the plant. He offered it as the evenings door prize.

Wow, a very nice looking plant, odd, but nice looking. LOTS of flowers too, at least a couple dozen. It has been in continuous bloom since he got it in March. They have a spicy citrus scent. It was mounted to a 2 inch by 4 inch piece of hardwood board, but so what. Like Gin's pot, it was insignificant. The roots were wrapped in a single loop of wire intended to be hung from. Heck, the only reason it would need a tree is for support, right? He explained that he keeps it in the southeast corner of his greenhouse and it gets watered twice a week from overhead sprinklers. He uses regular well water. It is hard water, somewhere between 300 and 400 ppm but there is no sign of it on the plant at all, nor any of the other plants of his I have seen!!!!

Time for the raffle. A ticket is pulled, a number called out. I decided to leave my ticket in my pocket since I was SURE I would not get it and I was not sure if I could keep it anyway. Lots of ticket checking but no squeals of joy yet. I said, "Hey, no winner yet?" so I pulled my ticket out. "Hey! I have 494, no wonder no one was yelling!!!"

So, yes, I now have one of these to learn how to care for. It has a couple dozen leaves and one new growth that was pointed out to me. It is mounted to a piece of cork bark, but who knows how long that will last, especially if I can learn how to care for it.
