Well, my kids are young enough they don't care. My daughter is learning how to enable me. My MIL is not at all thrilled but becoming resigned. Hubby is semi supportive. We have some very good friends of the family that have kind of adopted my kids as their grandkids. They are VERY well off. He knows my first orchid show is tomorrow and sent me money to help me "expand my interest"!!!! Gotta love it.

I'm divorced so I don't have some of the issues affecting many. I do remember buying a sanderiana from Bill Thoms back in the 80's. I will never forget how much I paid for it because the rest of my marriage I was reminded very often. $40.00.
I've told my kids...listen if something happens to me, there is a small fortune in plants out in the back. Put them on auction or something...please don't just toss them. They laugh. If they truly knew how much of their inheritance I was squandering they would not think it was so funny.
Most of my friends don't grow anything but the funky stuff inside a refrigerator.

My husband likes orchids as long as they bloom. When they do no bloom he could not care less. He likes me having a hobby, but they are not his favourite. He's used to it by now. My daughter always says are you looking at your vanda forum again. My mother in law takes care of my Vanda's when we are on vacation. My mom only gives comment when I did buy a new one. Although she thought it was nice that I have one in spike now.

I'm glad my family are supportive, although they do think I'm a bit fanatic at times.. They're willing to bring me to shows, and visit a nursery or two when we're on holidays.. I think I might have gotten dad hooked on phals now..

My family likes the orchids when they are in bloom and my middle daughter even chose a den Comet King for herself which she plans to take with her to college in a couple of years. They liked our annual Orchid society picnic so I think they'll be going to at least one meeting each year. : ) I am lucky. No one complains overly much about my hobby.
