Hello all,
I would like to wish everyone a Happy new year, hopefully 2011 will be full of blooms for us all.
On June 6th, 2010, I started a New thread http://www.rv-orchidworks.com/orchid...ro-medium.html, after all the helpful responses I got from the members here, and due to the limited specialized orchid supplies in my country, I decided to venture with my experiment and was hopeful that I will likely receive a good outcome.
On June 12th, 2010; the Phals were repotted into a 100% perlite and lava rock. They were placed outside all summer long but did not get any direct sunlight. They received plenty or indirect light, and cool wind all day long. I didn't use any fertilizer because I couldn't find an orchid specific one. The water that was used was filtered water.
Here are the pictures on the day of the repotting on June 12th, 2010:
About 2 -3 weeks passed before anything happened and then new roots started to appear, then after about 3 months new leaves started to form.
final result, was a success, 2 new leaves and more than 10 new roots per Phal, some of the roots are approx. 20 cm long as you will see in the pics below. Mid-October, the Phals started growing new spikes and I moved them inside every since. I maintain a once a week watering regimen where Flush the medium with about 2 liters of filtered water and then let the pots drain.
Any tips in addition to what I'm doing? and thank you in advance.
