just read a few post in OTF about home made culture medium. so decided to try out an experiment, modified the version given in one of the thread.
ingredients
1. 500ml coconut water + 500ml water
2. one banana
3. three medium size potato
4. 1 inch by 1 inch coconut sugar
5. 1/4 teaspoon 20:20:20 fertilizer
6. 1/2 tablespoon Azomite (source of trace minerals)
7. 1/4 pack of 260 gm agar
i put ingredient 1 to 4 in a high speed blender (2 Hp) for about i minute (hoping to get more nutrients in the flask by doing so), then cooked the solution for about 20 mins, added the fert and Azomite during the last minute and then the agar finally and stir till it dissolved. i did not sieve the solution as the high speed blender made everything into nice thick slurry solution.
had a doritis pulcherrima seed pod that is ready to harvest outside. will do the sowing tomorrow.
well, i am a first timer in this, just like to experiment with things. will keep posting about the progress. hopefully can see some germination.
will keep posting about the progress from time to time.
looking forward for any comments.
goodluck and congrats in advance.
Awesome. Good luck. I look forward to learning of your success!
Cheers,
BD
may i ask how and where you will sow the seeds inside the bottles? also how do you avoid contamination?
Hi,
I´m interested.
Have you seed growing in those mother flasks?
Show us somw pictures.
thanka.

first I tried this medium formulation ,just for looking, it is stuning indeed , a little bit slow in the beginning , I replated for the second time on it some phal's hybrid , strong roots as you can see, thanks for your post
Hi,
Your flasks look amazing. One question: what is coconut sugar and azomite? can we replace them?
Bye
Mike
coconut sugar = natural sugar produced from sap obtained from cut flower buds of coconut

and as for the update, unfortunately non of the doritis pulcherrima germinated, i asked a local orhcid nursery owner, he said the ingredient looks fine but he mentioned that i did not check the pH. he said the pH is very important. adjust it to about 5.5 with pH meter
i am still keeping the flask (it has been about 4 months plus), although no growth but no contamination with fungal growth so i guess i will still keep for 2 more months.
Looking forward to your continued posts on your experiment.
