Hi,

I have a dendrobium Nobile and after it has finished flowering(flowers fell off) it has alot new growth , but some of the older green leaves have turned yellow slowly and fell off. Can anyone tell me what the problem is. It’s roots are a tannish white and the potting medium has small barks chips in the middle and slightly larger ones on top.

I also have a Davallia fejeensis question. It’s outer part of the leaves have been slightly turning brown and yellow. Not all of them just some. any help is greatly appreciated.

I use a humidifier with deminerlized water for half of the day every day.

Hi Fred, Those roots look very good to me! I used to have a den. nobile, and would re-pot it after it finished blooming. Could yours possibly need re-potting? If it's actively growing...now is the time. Maybe some more members who grow these will reply...Betty :-)

Thank you for your help. I had it only for 3 months but it finished blooming and there is no roots coming out of the bottom, but would you still repot it?

I probably would, if it were mine. AND, I'd use small fir bark,60% perlite, 20% charcoal 20%; a slightly larger pot with slits/holes and I would cut off any black roots with a sterile blade, before re-potting. I'd also put a few packing "peanuts" in the bottom to give it good drainage. I always soak my media overnight before re-potting...Just my opinion, hope this helps...Betty :-)

Older canes will often lose their leaves. I think they can still bloom from those canes though. The roots look healthy, and they like being potbound, so I don't think I would repot it, unless the media is breaking down. If you do need repot, I agree with Betty's directions for how to do so.

How do you tell if the medium is breaking down?

What kind of charcoal, like form the pet store?

If I can’t find a slightly larger pot and only a more than slightly larger pot would you still repot, and if so how would you fill the excess space?

No, it's made of hard wood chunks just for plants...the horticultural kind. Betty
