Phalaenopsis javanica

One of my favorites. A charming, small, fragrant flower. Apparently the fragrance can be quite variable. This one smells like lily to me, but I have a friend who swears hers smells like nutmeg and another who says his has an unpleasant fragrance. Of course fragrance is somewhat subjective.

The drawback to this species is that it likes to shove its spikes down into the medium, so you have to constantly watch for new spikes and where they are going.

What a cute little orchid bloom. Interesting note about the bloom spikes. Guess they are used to growing down in situ and not used to being potted.

Yes, the spike habit definitely indicates this. Unfortunately, mounted orchids don't do well in my conditions. The plant itself seems happy growing in a pot. It now has 2 basal keikis in addition to the main growth. It also has 3 older spikes and 2 new ones coming.
