    Unhappy dendrobium nobile

Hi just joined yesterday and already i have a question about the dendrobium nobile. Bought this from a good friend and it had a lot of canes which have now turned yellow and i have three new canes with good growth. My question is should i get rid of the old canes, should i cut them off, pull them off or what. Should i then repot the plant in new medium and then put it in the conservatory. Any help would be much appreciated, it is my first winter of looking after my plants and i know i will be using the forum for oh so many questions.

i have a hybrid form of nobile, and it has three Pbulbs-one new with good growth, the others spent. keep in mind it is most likely to flower on the previous years canes. If they are turning yellow, wait for them to shrivell so it can get every last ounce of energy from them. then chop em, but dont repot for another 2 years i would say.

oh and i think (depending on the temps in winter-where are you by the way?) the conservatory would be a good place, or on a bright windowsill

See my reply to a previous question.

Nobile needs plenty of light and water and fertilser during growing. Needs dry period before it will flower.

Does flower again from old canes. Do nor remove intil they are very old.

I have a nobile that I bought while it was in bloom during the summer. I'm in New England, so the leaves have now fallen off withing the past few weeks. It was growing two Keikis which I seperated and repotted. Now I have another keiki growing off the original cane; I've given it some water at least every two weeks to keep it from drying out. I know that during the winter it should have a dormant period, so I'm trying to help it the best I can. I also set it out in the mud room where the temps are mid 40's low 50's because I know they can survive in near freezing temps. This is also to help it during it's dormant period. Once it gets warmer outside I plan on letting it sit outside to see what develops from there. I don't plan on seperating the keiki from the mother cane until it has developed good size roots. I may not seperate it at all unless someone has some good input for me. I don't have the mother can sitting in high light, but repotted keiki is sitting in good sunshine. any input for me?
