Another question about phal orchid

This phal. is about to drop its last bloom. But for awile now this root has beeen going skyward. Could it be another flower stalk? I thought it was just a root.

phal like to put up aerial roots and just wave them about nothing to worry about...just not gonna give you flowers

I have a phal that has grown its root upward exactly like yours. Got me excited at first coz I thought it might be a spike.

Oh well its has given me the pleasure of its flowers for a good length of time now. Maybe it will keep blooming after I trim the stalk back like many of mine do. I`m waiting for a large one to open its blooms again very soon. I have 4 in bloom now to enjoy on the patio. I appreciate the replies! Maybe this old dog will learn some new tricks here. lol

I have a couple of Phals that do similar roots. One has two sticking straight up for 6 inches/150mm!

Good to know that I don`t have the only wierd looking one! It makes them more interesting by being unique.

Actually, Phals grow on trees in the wild...sooooooooooooooo, if that orchid were tipped to the side, and growimg on a tree (as it would in its natural state), THAT ROOT would find the tree trunk ( or a branch ) and attach itself to it. Also, if a phal is living as nature intended, its leaves would be angled so that ALL WATER would drain out of the crown, so as to NEVER cause crown rot. Betty :-)
