Default Orchids, growing in the wild in Europe

In those days, quite a few orchids are blooming in Slovenia: some, mainly, are found in the blooming meadows, while the habitat of Cypripedium calceolus - it is the one and only Cypripedium growing in the wild in Europe - is slightly higher, near the foot of the mountains:

    Orchis morio:

    Orchis mascula:

    Orchis simia:

    Orchis purpurea:

    Ophrys insectifera:

    Listera ovata:

    Dactylorhiza maculata:

    Serapias vomeracea:

    Neottia nidus avis, non-photosynthetic orchid:

    Himantoglossum adriaticum:

    Cypripedium calceolus:

You have some very good pictures. The one flower I had to call the OH in to see. lol I can see why in Victorian times ladies did not grow orchids. Ah well... The cypridium is amazing! I hope no silly person digs them up. Thanks so much for sharing these with us. It's always nice to see orchids undisturbed in their natural habitat.

The Ophrys insectifera is aptly named too. It reminds me of a wasp.

Branka, these are beautiful, interesting, fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing with us. I called my husband over to take a look too.

and the correct term to use for non-photosynthetic orchids is "epiparasitic", as they actually steal the food off fungus' attaking tree roots or whatever is under there.....
