Has anyone here successfully started a new Phaius plant from a spike? I keep having to cut the black off, and the length of spike left to provide nourishment for my little sprouts is getting less and less. I'd appreciate any comments.

I have a couple questions regarding starting Phaius plantlets from the flower spike. First, how do you prevent the cut areas from turning black? I have put fungicide after cutting, and then dipped in cinnamon, but after a while the ends start to get black.
Second, at some point, do I detatch the babies from the spike or just let them on their until it dies away?
Thank you.

Angie, instead of cinnamon, spray the cut end with alcohol, then put a little sulphur on the cut. This will kill the bacteria, allowing the cut to heal FAST! Betty
