These were a rather pleasant, albeit, shocking surprise! This evening, we had Fred Clarke from San Diego (some of you have probably heard of him...) speak to us at our monthly meet about "Mini and Compact Catts of today" and he had a selection of flasks for sale. Of the flasks were several of these, and i had a brief chat to him and he asked how many orchids i had. "200" was the reply. After looking at the display tables, i got a tap on my sholder, and there was Freds assistant/travel companion holding this out to me and said "Fred would like you to have 225 plants" with a smile. I was flabergasted!
If you read this Fred, i offer again my thanks and gratitude.

Ooh lucky you!! They will be beautiful once they bloom....however many years away that will be
I know Fred and he is a very nice guy. Good for you. His birthday was yesterday, btw. Look forward to watching your new baby orchids grow, Jordan.
Cheers,
BD
Lucky you. You must really have impressed him!
how lucky you are indeed!! you must have been doin some smooth talkin!
Awesome, so nice of him to present you with these. I am really pleasantly surprised how we youngsters are welcomed and encouraged into the hobby by the experienced stalwarts. I also received some gift plants at Dresden, vendors were really surprised when I told them I was buying these orchids for myself and not as gift for my girlfriend, mom or granny LOL!
Very cool! So, since I know little about baby orchids is the next step compots/plug trays? And, any idea how many years till they'll be all grown up and flowering? I thought briefly once about buying a flask, but then the voice in my head said "Kathi, step AWAY from the table!!!"
Thanks all, Kathi-Fred has advised to keep them in the flask until august, then to plant them out using the same treatment system before hand. He advised the 36 cell trays and put one seedling in each cell. Then get a small electric blanket and cover it with plastic and then sit the tray on top, using a thermostat to turn the blamket on/off when it either hits 15*C or 12*C
Hi Jordan,
Any updates on this lovely project? :-)
