Another One for the Nepenthes Experts

I'm not sure where to post this thread. I didn't plan to have this plant but it was dump on me so, I might as well give it my best.

This one is a lot smaller that the ones I saw being sold at the shop. Its growing in a 3" pot and the pitcher is only 2 1/2" tall. The biggest leaf only about 5" long. When I asked my friend about its name, she said, 'pitcher plant' .

Any hope for an ID?

Actually, I was looking at this website about pitcher plants and it looks like they are doing a lot of hybridizing with this family of plants as well...

That IS cool, Tanya. I was looking at the photo and then read Tim's reply. I had to go back to the photo again. I thought that was some kind of vase next to the pot the plant is in. LOL!

Tim, I did some reading and yes, I found out that this maybe a hybrid which is good news to me because it means that the plant is much more tolerant to home growing condition.

BD, the pitcher is only 2.5 inches tall so I don't consider it huge, more like mini.

No Bruce that's not "huge" ... that is most likely still a baby! LOL

Tanya, in addition to all the hybrids out there making ID difficult, there is also the problem that a Nepenthes [Neps for short] may produce different looking pitchers at different stages of life. Pitchers formed by immature neps are generally different from those on a mature plant.

At a first glace I would guess maybe a N. ventricosa or hybrid thereof. But that is only a guess.

ill tell ya what though it looks almost like a ventricosa maybe the black peristome type like the ones what are they called has that one place oh well .. id say if its a high brid it might be par vent.

Hi , The pitcher on yours looks like the ones on mine , it is labled as 'Alata ' which from what I was told is called something else now . As bad as the orchid names lol . Gin

Thanks all for the input. I have done some searching as well and found a pic of a hybrid Nepenthes alata x ventricosa. The size of the pitcher matched but the hybrid don't have that 2 rows of spiky ridge on the side (whatever the proper term is...shrug). Whether its a species or a hybrid, I think it will survive the hot summer, it has already grown 2 new leaves and busy making 2 more pitchers. I hope it will survive the moonsoon rains.
