Water quality

Hi,
I am new to the Boynton Beach FL. area and am concerned about our water quality. Our water is RO membrane treated and chlorine added. I collect the water and let it stand for several days to allow the chlorine to disapate. Is this now considered pure? Should I use fertilizer for pure water?

I would think it is pure. The chlorine only lasts a couple days and I'm not sure chlorine even makes it "impure".

You need to add a fertilizer with all micro and macro nutrients. Otherwise the orchid will lack something due to the RO water being pure. You should use the RO fertilizer formulas.

I read recently on an aquarium forum that many areas are now treating water with a chlorine based chemical that does NOT dissipate when exposed to open air. Aquarists using tap water in these areas must use a dechlorinator as opposed to the old method of aging water. I am not sure if a dechlorinator would just increase the amount of dissolved solids or not. I will try to find the info on that as I use tap water as well for my babies.

Yes, you have read right, the chemical in question is called chloramine. It is very stable and can only be removed with the use of suitable products. But it is not dangerous for plants at the concentration added to disinfect. Fish and animals are more sensitive.
