Default Inquiring minds want to know....

I recently bought a start of 'Sharry Baby'. It came from a grower with a good reputation. My question is.....the tag that came with the start just says Sharry Baby on it. Should I send these folks an email and ask for a more complete name for the tag or are they all onc.'Sharry baby'? Shouldn't I have some kind of "parentage" listed on my tag??

    Thanks,
    LuAnn

Yes, most Onc. Sharry Baby would have a var. name included. It depends on where you got it. You mention it was a 'start'. If from a friend, perhaps they gave you all the info they have? Can't hurt asking.

Yes, it's good to get the whole name. If you ever decide to enter it in a show, or cross it you will need that information.

Ive had several sharry baby's, all with just Onc Sharry Baby on the tag. No vars, no anything. just sharry baby. Var means Varietal, and not every plant is a varietal. There are ones such as var alba or var pedunculatum, but there is always a standard, un-modified, un var-ed mother plant.

Perhaps yours is simply that-a standard, sweet chocolate scented Sharry Baby?

Sharry Baby is the name of the grex (or cross) of two specific parents: Onc. Jaime Sutton x Onc. Honolulu. So, all Sharry Babies have the same parentage. What differs is the cultivar...you can have Sharry Baby "Sweet Fragrance" or Sharry Baby "Yellow," etc. Not all the offspring from the grex will have cultivar names though. Yours may have been left off the tag, or it simply may not have one.

    Hope that helps!

oooh Kathi I think you may have hit the nail on the head. The tag says "Sweet Fragrance" on it. I guess that answers my question! Thanks!! so the cross will always be the two you listed above?? and then the cultivar will be 'Sweet Fragrance'?
