    Default My prize rosemary...

O.K. Last one, I promise! (not) My "other" plants were so happy today, I went on a photographing frenzy. Here is my rosemary, that I've been tending for 3 or 4 years now. I prune and trim it regularly in the winter to create the shape I want. I let it grow rampant in the summer to have more to work with when I prune it. It is more oily and fragrant than any other rosemary I've seen or had.

Too bad I can't post the smell!

    Hey Matt!

Do you grow it to use or for the heck of it? It is a beautiful plant! I can't ever remember seeing rosemary get so large. I think it is too dry here for it to grow that well. Bravo!

    Cheers!

I do use it in cooking, but I mostly grow it because it is beautiful. I'll send you guys some after I prune next time, and you can try it out in scrambled eggs with feta cheese...my favorite!

I does take ALOT of water. In the winter indoors it takes a gallon of water or more every week. Outside I water it every other day or even daily when it's hot out.

Gee - you were doing fine till you mentioned Feta cheese . In So Cal we use rosemary for landscaping all over the place. Fast growing, evergreen, blossoms. And where I work, when the chefs in the cafeterias want to use rosemary in a recipe, they just go out and snip some fresh from the green areas!

Beautiful shrub Matti-E... I didn't realise they drink so much though... and whilst we're on the cooking.. don't forget roast lamb with rosemary... I don't cook it coz I'll burn the house, but others I'm sure will attest to the aroma and flavours imparted with a few sprigs thrown in or inserted into the meat...

well, that's your cooking lot for the day...

    cheers

We had a scrubby one too. Nothing anywhere near that big or nice.
