This Oncidium intergeneric is pretty big - 33" tall from the base of the pseudobulbs, flower width 3 1/2". I've had a tough time shooting it (and Phillip gets the credit for the single bloom shot) because it is a dark, almost black/purple with a slightly lighter magenta lip - and the whole thing has a luxurious velvet texture, which tends to "silver" the blooms.
I seem to have better luck with growing Brassia/Oncid/Miltonia hybrids than just about any other genera - probably because they're considered easy.
wow! That is a beauty!
I love the subtlety of the colors.
Intense! I love it.
Nice rich purple or marron. Love iT
Beautiful. Glad to see Phillip is back to photographing the blooms! I find these Oncidium intergenerics the second hardest to grow after phalaenopsis. I think I am getting some success with mounting my phals and may try mounting my Onc intergenerics too.
Thanks to all for the appreciation.
Interesting that we all have different levels of success with completely different orchids. I have a hard time with phals, and, although I have quite a few, and love them, I have a tough time with paphs. It remains to be seen how I do with phrags. And over the next week or so, two-thirds of my collection is going into semi-hydro. Watering 80 orchids every other day is just insane....
That is beautiful! The orange on the lip is wonderfully vivid-not something I typically associate with Bellaras.
Great fuchsia lip on this orchid!
cheers,
