Question First Orchid health check please?

This is my first orchid - it was a gift from my husband from a local Big Box. It looks in pretty fair health to me - but I am complete newbie to this. Does it look okay to more experienced eyes? Per the company website it is a Phal. amabilis, and I suspect, based on some time with google, that it may be Phal. amabilis 'Paula Bride Beauty'. Of course, there is no way to be sure.

Looks very healthy. I'm not sure what it is potted in? I would probably repot after blooming. I don't really grow phals, Anna. You might get better advice from one of the experts, here.

Looks healthy enough. Don't know the ID but it is not a Phal amabilis.

No, not a Phal amabilis. It is a healthy looking orchid though. Phal. amabilis is a white orchid.

    cheers,

I agree with the above. Looks good and should be repotted after it is done blooming. It will soon demand that you get it some friends.

Okay, thank you all! I thought it looked okay. It's potted in bark, with a little bit of moss, and dries out very quickly. I'm glad she's doing well enough that I can wait until after blooming to repot. I had the opportunity to look at more orchids from this source yesterday, and have to agree that the amabilis claim seems to be wrong. Despite the company's statement that all their orchids are varieties of amabilis, even my inexperienced eyes could tell that there were different kinds of Phals there. *sighs* And after getting photos of my girl and being able to look at her side by side with Paula Bride Beauty, I'm wrong about that possible match. So, the poor girl is a solid NOID.

Several of the other orchids I saw looked absolutely bursting with good health and vigor, if slightly battered by their surroundings. I hope that some wandering orchid fancier spots them and gives them a good home. I may have to go look at them again, perhaps after I've been paid.....

I have the very same type of orchid and the best I can determine it is called a Golden Treasure. Yours looks as good as the day I bought mine. I'm also a noobie to orchids like you, and mine is only 3 weeks old but has begun to wilt. I'm hoping I can repot it and save it. I will post a thread with pics soon to seek advice should you be interested. Good luck!

Welcome to both AnnaEA and Kapricious. I'm still wet behind the ears myself but you have chosen a great forum to join. Everyone is very gracious and friendly and loaded with tons of info. There are sections on here for repotting and genus specific pointers. Snoop around there is a lot to see and learn.
