Warm Growing Dendrobium Species Orchid

This came to me with about 200 others, and like over half of them did not have a name tag.
It is a species, so who ever is growing warm Dends should know this one.

Yep, Michael's right, that looks like D. fimbriatum var. oculatum. This species belongs to a group of fairly similar looking dendrobiums but is easily identified by the very fimbriate labellum and the dark patch in the throat. The flowers are unmistakable ... though the size of the canes is quite variable. You seem to have acquired one of the shorter-growing plants that will stay below 1 m (around 3 feet), which may seem large but actually makes it easy to accommodate in most greenhouse and even indoor settings. The plants that are generally in circulation in the UK belong to the larger-growing kind and easily reach more than 2 meters (around 7 feet) under ideal conditions, which means it isn't as popular as it deserves, as it is a gorgeous plant that will bloom reliably each year. The flowers are short-lived at around 5 to 7 days, but a specimen plant will be covered in them and each cane will produce flowers over several years rather than just once in its lifetime.

Love the rich, colors. The contrast of coloring from dark to bright really stands out and that fringe around the petals looks plush. AL

i like the color of the flowers a lot. but the plant seems really neat and bushy for a dendrobium. they always look sickly to me, so i don't get them. is this just because it is spring there? or do these stay green all year? i have one, and it stays green all year, but does not look all feathery and tropical. kingianum. it looks like something that adapted to growing on the side of a stony cliff should look like. it looks right at home with desert succulents. yours is not the 'keep out of sight unless blooming' sort of dendrobium at all. it looks like a nice big happy lush orchid bush. great job.
