My recently purchase vanda has very little growing medium in it? It that ok?
Many orchids are grown in baskets with very little , or no medium. They are epiphytes.
Where are you growing your orchids?
I have it in a 4 inch pot inside a clay pot with many holes in the sides of it.
It sits 2 feet from a eastern facing window.
Joy
Vanda require the highest heat, light and water with lots of air circulation of any other orchid I know.
I had a Vanda and gave it to a friend that has a green house because I can not meet the requirments growing on my windowsill.
You might want to google Vanda culture
I grow my vandas in Amsterdam in vases !! No soil!! fill the vase 2 times in a week with luke water and drain it after 30 min... they are very happy as i am .. I cant water them every day .. sometime they go with out of watering for a week...
Even old threads provide a wealth of information!
Vanda potting mix??? Seriously? Mine would rot if I did that; mine are all in hanging baskets with no media. My only vandaceous that is the exception is an Arachnis whose rather adventurous roots found a pot where a terrestrial was growing and they grew all the way to the bottom. When I dug them out, there was no rot, surprisingly.
