I was concerned that those outside of US would not comprehend April Fool's Day. I had no idea if April 1 hoaxes and practical jokes were done outside of US.

My receptionist, two years ago, had me return a call to a potential patient. He gave me a number and the name Myra Mains. Well, I did not catch on until the middle of a conversation with a Funeral Director that I was asking for "My Remains" hahaha

I have googled the subject - makes a change from orchids ! it seems that the Romans had it, more than 2000 years ago, hence it is common throughout Western Europe at least , which would be where it came from in USA. Its a small world.
