Default 2 Varieties of Phal bellina

These 2 varieties of Phal bellina are blooming in my orchid house at the moment. A few Phal cornu-cervi are also spiking including the red var 'Chattladae' .

The first is a variety as a result of line breeding for 'improved' form and the second, a clone from a jungle-collected specimen.

    I love both forms.

Due to conservation, restrict rules on jungle plants and advancement in selective line breeding , the market is now flooded with selective forms. Thus why, newbies are more familiar with selective ones.

Moreover, award judging teams tend to prefer selective ones with round petals. I have seen phal bellina with very round petals fetching a lot of awards at orchid shows.

Anyway, each has its own beauty & glory.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

Whatever it is I still love the wild bellina very classic looking, unique and stand on their own that is the beauty of nature.

Thanks everyone for looking in and commenting. I'm afraid I'm like Zain - with a preference for the 'wild' type. which I consider less formal in shape and presentation, more like dressing in jeans and T-shirt rather than in a tuxedo. Don't get me wrong I like both types. Actually I'm trying to collect as many bellinas and violaceas as my limited funds allow.(Where's the resolution to downsize my collection? )

Must admit i do prefer the "wild" type but still love the line bred beauties.
Seems to me a greater variety in the "wild" stock & that makes it more interesting when they spike for the first time but conservation is a must so will happily have the line bred 1's .

wild bellina much better for my test! btw selected round types can be amazing, but this one is not as "selected (round) as people can expect but quite nice.

Gorgeous. I prefer the wild type too, but I truly love them both!

Very nice, though I must say -- if pressed -- that I VASTLY prefer the wild form. I find it far more elegant than the rounder line bred form. (Not to mention, why try to breed it to look just like all the typical phals?)
