    Default Dendrobs in bloom

Den. Andree Miller x Den. alexandrea

Amazingly long lasting flowers! I have seen them hanging around in almost perfect condition for three to four months. And they bloom twice a year too! What a trooper!

    Cheers. Hoa.

    Default Dendrobium Silver Eyes

Australian dendrobium hybrid (possibly have some Dend. tetragonum parentage). Easy growing, wet or dry, hot or cold, they grow and grow, then bloom!

    Cheers. Hoa.

    Beautiful Dendrobes Hoa...

interestingly, I've just been reading some old articles by Andree Millar who was very much involved with these Papua New Guinean orchids.

also, good call on that Aussie Dend hybrid. According to Wildcat, tetragonum makes up 56.25% of it's background and hence the shape. Dendrobium bigibbum makes up 25% giving it the colour. Of course, there's also Dendrobium kingianum in there, as well as falcorostrum and fleckerii, the last being my favourite Dendrobium!

    cheers

    Thanks Tim!!!
You did a great job in finding out about the parentage of the Dend. Silver Eyes grex. I googled it but nothing substantial came up! Yeah, all those dendrobium species are my favorites too!

Andree Miller is well known and much respected author, especially an authority about Papua & New Guinea orchids!

    Cheers. Hoa.

    Default Dendrobium (Dockrillia) teretifolium

Since Tim is so great to day, I decide to post the pictures of another Australian dendrobium currently in bloom. Species belonging to this group recently have been given a new genus name, Dockrillia! (Dockrillia teretifolia)
This species sometimes is also called 'The Pencil Orchid', or 'The RatTail Orchid', or the 'Bridal-Veil Orchid', although the 'Pencil Orchid' is what I heard most often. Very hardy plant with extremely fragrant flowers!!!

    Cheers. Happy Holidays!!! Hoa.
