Wrinkled pseudopod normal?

Hello,
The stems (psuedopods?) of my orchids typically get wrinkled after a few months. I don't know what the orchid is, but all of mine are one type. In the photo attached, the three stems are of one plant: the left and right are older and wrinkled, the middle is newish and not wrinkled yet. Is this normal?

To the forum . What you have is a Dendrobium , The older canes will shrivel somewhat , They lose some of thier good roots , but they still supply the others with moisture that is why they shrink , but should be left on the plant until you get a lot of growths and have to repot or they dry up . Welcome to the forum Bob! Unfortunately I cannot help out with your growing question.. I wonder though if it is possible to minimise this type of wrinkling by providing more humidity? Not necessarily watering the plant but maybe misting to increase humidity...

I have the same problem with my older cane too. I think the medium that i use dry up too quickly. Like Gin said, most of the energy go to the new cane there for the older one get wrinkle. But when i get a good day of rain the old cane seem to turn back to normal. I guess you and I are under water it. Maybe this is the most studip sugestion you ever heard try give it a 10-15min of runing water or soak the whole orchid in a pucket of water for 5 min

That's really not a stupid suggestion. I sometimes find a plant that is too dry, and either let it sit for 15 minutes in water, or water it every other day for a few days. Just don't keep it wet for too many days in a row...

I've had the wrinkling occur on dends, catts, oncs - essentially any genus with a pseudobulb. I've always understood it to be a sign of insufficient water. Unlike pleated leaves, which never recover, the pseudobulbs can, so they're a good tell-tale of the plant's thirst.

Many thanks to all! I haven't been watching, didn't realize anybody would come in after Gin, so my apologies for not paying attention. Very informative discussion. It seems humidity or watering is low. I'm planning to build a Wardian case soon, in the meantime, more misting.

My dend. seems to be doing the same and I've only been noticing this since the new growth.
